CASA VID E HIGUERA
Because it is located on a turtle nesting beach, the house is nestled in the mountains among the trees. A strategic siting approach was used so the house appears as a single-story structure, utilizing the topography to create the other levels.
This house is equipped with automated screen systems to block artificial lighting. Additionally, all roofs collect water, are habitable, and include vegetation to help reduce temperature. The house also has a photovoltaic system that generates all the energy it consumes.
This residential project is located in Playa Ostional, perched high on a hill along the coast on a plot with a terrace at its highest point and a steep slope descending to sea level, surrounded by abundant vegetation.
The house has a main level with the main entrance, social area, service areas, a secondary bedroom, office, and the master bedroom located at the north end of the property in the most private area of the lot. Descending to a sublevel, there are two more bedrooms and a gym, which are integrated into the mountain and forest, blending seamlessly into their environment. This blending is achieved not only through positioning and form but also by the use of natural materials and the color scheme of the facades.
This house was designed with a strong commitment to environmental responsibility due to its proximity to Playa Ostional, one of Costa Rica’s most important sea turtle nesting destinations. Sustainable systems have been incorporated, including solar energy collection, electrical automation, turtle-friendly lighting, and rainwater and wastewater management.
