Rodolfo is an Architect of the University of Design, Faculty of Architecture and Environmental Studies (UniDis) in Costa Rica. He is a member of the Federated College of Engineers and Architects of Costa Rica (CFIA). He lives in Tamarindo, Guanacaste, where he is a partner and co-founder of LSD Architects where he manages several residential, touristic and commercial projects.
While studying architecture Rodolfo began his involvement in construction in 1999 in England, as a construction laborer working on the project of the National Science Museum (London).
Then, he worked in San José, Costa Rica, with the firm FoRo (owned by Architect Álvaro Rojas), in which he was involved as a draftsman in several residential projects and in the design process of the Children’s Museum Auditorium. At the same time, Rodolfo was involved in the development of the Fidelita University, venturing as an adviser in the design of some spaces and infrastructure of the institution.
In 2003, Rodolfo traveled to Los Angeles, California to work at RoTo Architects, a well-known firm of Architects managed by Michael Rotondi. There he was involved with experimental architecture, design contests and design and construction projects such as the Hotel Miracle Manor in Desert Hot Springs and the Government Building of the Municipality of Pacoima. Thanks to his experience as a constructor, Rodolfo also had the opportunity to collaborate with Hype-Arc, the designer / construction firm of Sci-Arc University, which helped him to understand architecture from the constructor’s point of view, as well as generate complete solutions in the process of creating space.
During his stay in Los Angeles Rodolfo also worked at Gensler, one of the largest architectural firms in the world. He was involved in the design of several large-scale buildings such as the 62-story tower of the Ritz-Carlton LA Live Hotel and Los Angeles Convention Center as well as 2000 Avenue of the Stars, LA’s largest office building. During his work at Gensler he also had the opportunity to get involved in the process of various design contests and building plans of the LACMA Museum, designed by renowned architect Renzo Piano.
Throughout these 13 years of working with LSD Architects, Rodolfo has been the leader of several design and construction processes for high quality tourism, residential and commercial projects like a development of 11 hectares in the Nicoya Peninsula, Playa Hermosa, Malpais for the Hecht Family. (http://www.sycamoreprops.com/halpert.htm) on a Prototypical Sustainable Development project for which hes had to collaborate with A & LJ Investment GROUP, Quiros Law, 506 Developers, AyA and Puritec GES in an effort to develop the new Aqueduct of Playa Hermosa, Jaco.
Rodolfo is now directing the design process for a high-quality and sustainable residential complex in Playa Grande and he is also working in the design process for a sustainable permaculture hotel in Tamarindo, the construction of an urban beach hotel and a green-office center in San Jose, Costa Rica.
Luis Mauricio Solís is Partner and Co-founder of LABORATORY SUSTAINING DESIGN. Since 2006 he is the Project Director.
He studied Architecture at the University of Design and at the Central University where he graduated as an Architect in 2002, when he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture and Urbanism. Since 2003 he is a member of the Federated College of Engineers and Architects of Costa Rica (C.F.I.A.)
He began his professional practice in San José, Costa Rica, working for award-winning architecture firms such as Jaime Rouillon Arquitectura. During 2003 and 2004 he was promoted as Project Architect in charge of residential and commercial projects such as the ‘Show Room’ for Ferrari in Costa Rica and a commercial building for CAMBIO Y FUERA of 2,400m2.GHe also participated in projects such as GBM ‘Head Quarters’ in San Jose Costa Rica and CASA L4, winner of the Architecture Biennial of Costa Rica, in 2006.
In 2005 he worked for the firm Javier Salinas Arquitectos, where he was in charge of the design of a residential tower of 14 floors and several luxury residences located in the Central Pacific of Costa Rica. He was also involved in other projects such as a competition for a Luxury Hotel in Playa Tamarindo and a building in San José for ‘Cetroin Costa Rica’, with more than 7,000 m2 of construction.
Parallel to his professional practice in these two firms and since 2002, Luis Mauricio has been involved in several private residential and commercial projects that he has developed together with several architects, including his current partner.
Since 2006, Luis Mauricio, along with his partner, founded LABORATORY SUSTAINING DESIGN in Playa Tamarindo, located in the North Pacific of Costa Rica. He is in charge of the design and construction process of numerous residential, commercial, lodging projects and the development of Master Plans as ‘Yolihuani Sustainable Community’, mixed development in a 560 hectares farm located in Santa Cruz, Guanacaste and ‘Il FEUDO’, a prototype of self-sustainable community in the Gulf of Papagayo, in northern Costa Rica.
